Neck Stretch and Conditioning

Simple warm-up exercise of neck rotations. For this stretch to be of any use please keep your shoulders down and relaxed. Allow your head to make full circles. Start with 10X to the right and 10X to the left. Make big circles, do not do it fast or you will get dizzy.

For the next two photos - Just turn your head to the farthest right and the farthest left - hold about 7 seconds for each side.

Next couple of exercises are more advanced so perform with a partner to give you support if needed.

Put a pad on the floor so you can rest your head. Do a handstand first and lower your head onto the pad - find a comfortable spot to rest your head on. Most important is keeping the top of the head aligned with neck muscle and spine. At the beginning keep your hands on the floor for balance and support - you do not want your body weight to crash down and break your neck. Hold position for about 25 seconds. As your neck gets stronger remove your hands from the floor and place them on the sides your body and hold up to a minute.

Great for conditioning. Many wrestlers use this technique. Great if you want to learn Ditangquan, you can begin to prepare for those head springs. First do a bridge using your hands then lower your head to the mat - then start to rock back to the back of your head then forward till you feel a good neck stretch around your throat. Measure your distance between your head and your feet.
