Airport in Chinese is called Ji Chang
If you want to go from Shanghai to Nanjing in Jinagsu Province only way is train or bus. Train ride is 3 hours. There are no flights from Shanghai to Nanjing.
If you want to go to Zhanjiang which is near Hainan Island in Guangdong Province. Check flight schedules. You will have to travel to Guangzhou to get to Zhanjiang and you will need to return to Guangzhou to go anywhere else. There are flights to Zhanjiang from Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
It is safe to travel by Bus or Train. The train stations are very congested but you can get a cabin - usually 4 per cabin and you can enjoy the countryside. Travel afternoon and you get dinner and you can sleep. If you share main cabin it is crowded and you get a large group of people staring at you most of the trip. Haha!
Bus rides for 3 or 4 hour rides are comfortable and cost from 40 to 50RMB which is about $4.50 to $6 USD for one way travel.
