American Wu Shu Society - Ukraine Champions visit New York and California 2007

Andrey Koval and Aleksey Nosach from Ukraine Wu Shu Federation came to New York to help Master Edward Aguirre in teaching the children of the Ditan Wu Shu program. Head coach Oleg Chukanov sent these boys in goodwill and with my assistance bring these boys to a NASKA competition that was held in Ontario California, March 2-4, 2007. Andrey and Aleksey won each of their events at the World Wu Shu and Kung Fu Championships in Miami Florida 2005. It was their first USA Championship.

First we want to say Thank You to Mr. Tom Moran CEO of Mutual of America for sponsoring the expenses to participate at the Compete Nationals Open Championship.

The boys got a tour of New York in the beginning when they arrived February 8. They wanted to visit the "FREEDOM WOMAN" (Statue of Liberty) but due to the bitter cold and time I was unable to show them the site.

They trained twice daily at New York Sports Club, unfortunately I do not have my own school so their Wu Shu training was limited to 3 times a week.

The competition was very political for American Open competitions are dominated by Japanese and Korean Judges and Athletes - we had to prove that we were more of everything. I had to argue all day Friday and Saturday for proper size space as well as finding judges that respected Chinese martial arts in order to have a fair chance. The competitors I saw from Sport Karate and Sport Tae Kwon Do were very dynamic and incredible athletes BUT all they did was 10% martial arts and 90% acrobatics. After all it is a martial art competition. The Ukrainian boys stood out like sheep amongst wolves. Their performances quickly proved in the faces of their competitors that they should not take them lightly.

It was great during a warm up that many Karate and Tae Kwon do people sat around them to clap for techniques that are very basic for us to do. This made me feel proud!

The boys return home March 9 and continue their struggle with their Coach Oleg Chukanov to fight the tyranny of one man who controls Wu Shu in Ukraine. This man Matulevsky did everything possible to keep Andrey Koval out of the Ukraine team in 2005 for the IWuF World Championships in Hanoi, Vietnam. I know because I was there and witnessed the garbage that was going on. This year 2007 the event will be held in Beijing China and I hope the Ukraine Sports government and people support and push these boys on the team. I said it before Hanoi that without Andrey Koval the Ukraine team would win NO MEDALS. Guess what happened? Nothing for Ukraine team.

What goes around comes around and all those who try to control people who pour their souls and passion into something pure and positive will end up alone, old and pathetic. I am the epitome of knowing about this subject. People who never earned anything always want another to carry them across and friendships and relationships dissolve and time wasted. When the bread and butter ends then they become bitter. Remember never stress yourself out over petty people, look at them and laugh. For all they need to see is to see you suffer so do not give into losers.
